From durians, the infamous frog soup to the red-light district, it is indeed that Geylang is known for its bustling activities.
But then, Geylang is also known for its good food. And what better way to start the day with having a traditional kaya toast for breakfast?
Traditional old school coffee shops are hard to come by these days, and therefore we appreciate the existence of Keng Wah Sung Café. And no, it’s not what you think it is, it’s not your typical hipster café like what you imagined. This coffeeshop is famous along Lorong 41 Geylang (just a 5 min walk from Paya Lebar MRT) and it is well-known for its charcoal kaya toast.
They uses the old school style white bread for this charcoal toast.
The texture of the bread is just right, as I dislike those which are too soft. The butter to kaya ratio is also good for me and is overall a satisfying toast which is not the usual Ya Kun or Toastbox.
They are not stingy with the kaya spread. Even the butter is a slab.
Costing at $0.80 per slice, the kaya toast set here is definitely worth returning.
